Sportsman Index Racers Gear Up For Double Header Weekend at OSCR V

For the past four seasons, sportsman index racers have flocked the pits for the Holley EFI Outlaw Street Car Reunion event in hopes of grabbing a large sum of money and an elusive victory. In 2017, the sportsman racers were greeted with a first of it’s kind event for index. A ‘race within a race’ was added on Thursday during the VP Racing Fuels Pro Test Session where a host of the cars get their tune-ups dialed in for the weekend’s festivities. For the index racers, this is a chance at getting warmed up for the main event and a possibility at taking home even more money than ever before.

The Thursday Throwdown was a huge hit in it’s first season with over 50 entries in both 6.00 and 7.00 Index! The bonus race on Thursday is a unique structure where $2,000 is guaranteed from when the first tech card is purchased. As the car count grows, the payout also grows, rewarding racers for coming out a day early with more money up top and throughout the deep rounds. If over 61 entries in each class attend on Thursday, both 6.00 and 7.00 Index will pay $5,000 to the win for the warm-up bonus race! In 2017, both winners were rewarded with $4,000 to Win, their custom big check and a beautiful chrome Italian cup trophy that has become tradition for all winners of the Outlaw Street Car Reunion.

In 2018, the Throwdown is back on Thursday with two time trials for each class and then directly into eliminations all while mixing back and forth with the Pro Modified, Drag Radial and Pro Street Motorcycle entries to get their needed test session throughout the day in preparation for Friday’s qualifying sessions. We will run the Throwdown’s eliminations in it’s entirety on Thursday and crown a champion that evening. If you are unfortunate and lose in any round of the Throwdown, you may jump into the VP Racing Fuels Pro Test Session at no charge, just join into the lanes with the Drag Radial entries.

Moving forward to the main event, it has seen a few small changes in payout structure with racers receiving more money than ever. With both Strange Engineering 6.00 Index and Baskin Truck Sales 7.00 Index paying $5,000 to the event champion, the best of the best will fill the pits at their chance at the second large sum payout of the weekend. While big money up top is nice, we have boosted the payout from runner-up all the way back to the eighth-finalists, awarding the remaining 16 racers standing in eliminations, adding an extra round of payout from last year’s version.

There have also been a few minor rule changes in both categories to ensure all racers are legal and not using particular devices to aid in the driving and tuning ability of both cars. We are putting our final touches on the rule book and will have the final version of rules posted in a new press release within the next two weeks. No changes will be made to the class rules, a few general rules across the entire event are being addressed and will be added to each category, including the use of alternates and how they are entered into the ladder system if a racer is qualified and unable to make eliminations due to breakage or other issues.
